How to Merge PDF Files: Step-by-Step with Easy PDF Tool
Merging turns several PDFs into one document — useful for job applications, expense claims and contract packets. Here is how to do it cleanly.

Before you start
- Collect the files in one folder and rename them with numbers (01-cover-letter.pdf, 02-cv.pdf) so the order is obvious.
- Check each file opens correctly. A damaged or password-protected PDF may not merge.
- Only include what the recipient needs.
Steps
- Open the Merge PDF tool on the home page.
- Add your files by selecting them or dragging them into the upload area.
- Arrange them in the right order by dragging.
- Start the merge.
- Download the merged file and open it to check every page is present and in order.
Common issues
| Issue | What to do |
|---|---|
| A page is sideways | Rotate it in a PDF viewer before merging, or rotate after merging and save. |
| Merged file too large for an upload portal | Run the result through Compress PDF. |
| Bookmarks or links missing | Merging may not keep every bookmark; recreate them in a desktop editor if they matter. |
| Form fields stop working | Fill and flatten forms before merging (print to PDF). |
| Mixed page sizes (A4 and Letter) | Usually fine for screen reading; check before printing. |
Merging images too
Receipts photographed on a phone can be combined into one PDF with the JPG to PDF tool first, then merged with other PDFs. See how to convert images to PDF.
Good practice
- Keep the original files; merging is easy to redo, but recovering a lost original is not.
- Give the final file a descriptive name: “Smith_J_Application_Marketing_2026.pdf”.
- For sensitive documents, read PDF privacy in browser tools first.
